The real MLB Opening Day was today, and everything seemed to go smoothly. Dingers were socked, peanuts and beer were consumed and in general, everyone had fun. Or did they?
Not according to Bud Selig! More people could have enjoyed Opening Day, if it wasn’t for that gosh-darn Donovan McNabb being traded to the Redskins on the SAME DAY AS BASEBALL SEASON WAS UNDERWAY!
Apparently, not everyone in Washington, D.C. is doing backflips today over the Donovan McNabb news. Out at Nationals Park this afternoon, baseball commissioner Bud Selig met with reporters and didn’t seem too happy that a football trade in April might’ve stolen the spotlight from baseball’s Opening Day.
“I don’t know; it’s baseball. Goodness gracious, I’m a football fan — this is Opening Day. If you really want to know I’m going to give you a brutally honest answer. I got up at 5:30 this morning and did my daily workout. And I was watching an unnamed channel and that’s all they were talking about. I turned it off, that was my reaction. My goodness gracious.”
MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS! WHY WOULD A TRADE IN THE NFL OFF-SEASON HAVE SO MUCH COVERAGE? It’s not like the player in question was that big of a deal! Who cares! GOODNESS GRACIOUS!
ALL THAT MATTERS IS BASEBALL’S OPENING DAY! WASHINGTON FANS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE CONTENT SEEING THEIR NATIONALS GETTING CRUSHED BY THE PHILLIES 11-1 INSTEAD OF SEEING THEIR FOOTBALL TEAM FINALLY ACQUIRE A LEGITIMATE QUARTERBACK!
Now, I’m a big fan of baseball. It’s a great way to pass the time between football seasons, and generally fun to watch. It doesn’t seem like that McNabb trade sucked a ton of potential viewers from Opening Day. How much can they hear about it before the information gets redundant? McNabb was traded for two picks. The Eagles gain this. The Redskins gain that. There were baseball games played from 1 PM (EST) to 10 PM. I’m pretty sure that your ratings weren’t annihilated because of Donovan McNabb’s move.
Also, if Selig has that big of a problem about it, why doesn’t he do something about it? Isn’t he the commissioner of the MLB or something?
Bud Selig, stop being a bitch.
