I know the incident of Tashard Choice asking Michael Vick for an autograph happened on Sunday night, but there’s no way I can ignore the weird responses it has gotten. It happened after Vick’s Eagles beat their NFC East rival Cowboys, and the tweet above shows Choice apologizing and saying it was for his nephew.

Of course, there are people who think that it’s representative of a team as a whole and how they have given up on the season, even though under Jason Garrett, they have won three out of five, and the two games they lost (against the Saints and this one against the Eagles) were by a field goal each. They’re totally slacking off and not trying at all.

Head coach Jason Garrett didn’t really have a problem with it, but worded it in a way so that no columnist could attack him for being as relaxed about it as old head coach Wade Phillips.

To get you ready for the football season this weekend, I have a guest post by Danger Guerrero, a really great guy who has a great site called Steel Clink Alcatraz. As an Eagles fan, he decided to talk about Donovan McNabb for his first post here.

Donovan McNabb: A Primer for Redskins Fans

By Danger Guerrero

Let’s be honest: Donovan McNabb got a bad rap in Philly – especially near the end of his run. The guy consistently took the Eagles deep into the playoffs, putting up video game numbers in the process. Despite this, the fan base seemed to consistently focus on why he was ill-fitted to the position, to the team, to the city, etc. As a lifelong Eagles fan, I saw things deteriorate first hand. It was like a bad relationship, just getting worse and worse over the years – to the point just the sight of him behind a lectern at a press conference was enough to set Philly fans off. (“Oh Jesus Christ, what’s McPissPants whinin’ about now? You know who we need back? That Jeff Garcia guy. There was a gritty, scrappy, competitor. A real leader, not one of them flashy, showy, scrambling quarterbacks. And so white! You know, quarterback white.”) So when the Eagles decided to trade him this summer, it was just time. Rip the Band-Aid off and move on.

So, while I was watching a rally contest between the Red Sox and Yankees, the Redskins somehow convinced the Eagles to give them Donovan McNabb for a couple draft picks. Now, I’m not saying Philadelphia got a bad deal; a top 40 pick and another one next year isn’t bad at all. The Eagles were incredibly stupid to give their former franchise quarterback to another team in their own division.

It seems that NFL players regularly have connections to precognition. Only a couple days after Garrett Hartley claimed he saw himself kicking the game-winning field goal in a previous dream, Donovan McNabb says that he has no worries about the trade speculation wondering if he’ll leave Philadelphia. Why is he so relaxed? Apparently, a psychic told him he’d stay with the Eagles.

Some parts of Michael Vick’s past came out recently, but it has nothing to do with marijuana charges or anything about his dogfighting history. It came from a man named David Jacobs, a steroids dealer in Plano.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has been in the league for 7 seasons now, and has been very productive for his team and for fantasy purposes, too. It was speculated that after two concussions in three weeks earlier this season that Westbrook might retire. It’s still looking like he will end his career, but because of another injury: his constantly repaired left knee.

It’s been known for a few weeks that Michael Vick wasn’t that content with his role as a backup quarterback and occasional player used in the Wildcat formation for the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s proven in his short and infrequent time with the Eagles that he can be a capable, effective starting quarterback, but it’s almost out of the question that he would replace Donovan McNabb. There are a handful of NFL teams out there right now who have no identity at quarterback, using either ancient journeymen or inexperienced rookies. Rumors are going around claiming that one of the possible destinations for Vick next season could be the St. Louis Rams.

Hey, wait a minute. The Rams? I feel like someone suggested St. Louis last season right after Vick was reinstated, and gave some legitimate reasons showing that it would benefit him and the team. Not sure who it was, but oh well.

Man, Darren Howard’s pretty damn clever. Despite the misspelling of the portmanteau of “sack” and “Machiavelli,” he still gets the point for funniest NFL Twitter name. Now, let me see who Darren Howard is.. nobody that interesting. Oh well, props on the name. If anyone gets the ability to follow him and see if his tweets are interesting, please let me know if Howard is as funny as his username. Email any tips, or if you find a more creative name, at secondstringfullback@gmail.com

While you’re here, do you want to follow Drew Stanton on his Twitter? I understand if you don’t. His tweets are as erratic as his passes.
